Magnitude at the All Party Parliamentary Dinner

Magnitude at the All Party Parliamentary Dinner

We were really proud to have had our 8% barley wine - Magnitude, selected to go with the dessert of sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice cream at the All Party Parliamentary Awards Dinner in early July.

Three beers were chosen from around the UK for the event - one for each course of the three-course dinner. The beers were blind tasted and chosen by a team of tasters led by award-winning beer writer Jonny Garrett.

As the Montys beer was served at the dinner, Jonny Garrett explained, “The style barley wine came from a 19th century marketeer, who wanted a way to counter the threat of French wine imports, so it was made to make British beer more aspirational. Brewers started to adopt this term for their strongest beers. It was normally made in October to coincide with the new barley and hops harvest.”

He said of Montys’ Magnitude, “At the tasting the judges said they loved this bitter sweet beer and how it softened the sweetness of the sticky toffee pudding, and added complexity with liquorice, and caramel to the dessert.”

The event took place at One Great George Street, London, in the Great Hall with around 150 guests from all corners of the brewing and hospitality sector, from AB InBev, Coors, Heineken and Greene King, to UK hospitality, APPBG, Beer and Pub associations and SIBA as well may others.

Russ Honeyman Commercial Director from Monty’s said, “We were extremely pleased our barley wine was chosen. It was a great honour to be invited down to the event and to have our beer served there.”

Finalists Great British Food Awards

More award recognition for Monty’s Brewery!

Monty’s Brewery is excited to announce that the two beers the brewery entered in this year’s Great British Food Awards have both been nominated as finalists.

The competition had only seven finalists in the Beer/Cider and Lager category, so the brewery was extremely chuffed. The final judging will be announced on 29th October. The judging is being carried by an esteemed panel of celebrity chefs, Michelin-starred restaurateurs, popular food critics, influencers, buyers and food writers, all known for their love and knowledge of British food and produce.

Russ Honeyman Commercial Director for Monty’s Brewery said, “it of course has been a very tough time recently for the brewing industry, but it is important to keep entering competitions and strive for these awards. When your product is judged against others and you are being awarded for it, you know you are on the right track. It is the first time we have entered the Great British Food Awards and so getting recognised by this calibre of judges is very humbling”.

The two finalist beers are Monty’s Dark Secret a 5.6% gluten free oatmeal stout, packed with coffee and chocolate flavours and Monty’s Magnitude an 8.0% Barley Wine rich with warming alcohol and malty notes.
